Volunteers

Pete became a volunteer about 4 years ago after attending one of our Light up a Life events where he got chatting to one of our trustees. He feels personally very close to the project as 5 members of his immediate family, including him, have experienced cancer.

Pete is our resident quiz master and can often be found wearing his trademark fancy waistcoats with a microphone in his hand. Pete says, ‘well I can't bake cakes, but I'm a bit off a show off sometimes and I like to use my strengths and skills to help the Hospice in any way I can'. Pete also helps out in our warehouse where he P.A.T tests electrical items; he has tested over 1000 appliances.

Volunteering for the Hospice has also boosted Pete's social life, ‘It may sound a bit corny but it really has changed my life, I'm now constantly surrounded by friends'.

Volunteers play a very active role in the work of the Hospice - office duties at the Hospice Office, fundraising, in our charity shops, respite daycare and the provision of Reiki and Reflexology therapies at the respite daycare centre each Friday at Woldside.

There is always the never-ending challenge of raising funds and the Hospice would welcome hearing from individuals who would like to help for example with collections and special events.
